The Role

We are hiring a part-time strategic public relations manager to elevate and expand our earned media capabilities. This role is responsible for reputation, visibility and earned media outcomes across water-focused client accounts, while collaborating closely with strategy, digital and creative teams. Water and/or industrial vertical experience is preferred. Strong strategic PR experience is essential.

• Shape earned media strategy across multiple accounts

• Develop PR strategies aligned to client goals, campaign themes and business objectives
\n
• Build national and trade media relationships
\n
• Secure high-value placements based on client goals
\n
• Advise clients on positioning, narrative and timing as it relates to earned media, partnering with our Strategic Account Managers who own overall marketing strategy while you own communications direction
\n
• Interact with industry-specific media like those in water and mainstream outlets
\n
• Translate technical subject matter into compelling public narratives
\n

What You’ll Own

1 // Strategic PR Direction Develop annual and quarterly PR strategies aligned to client growth goals

• Identify high-value story angles aligned with thought leadership positioning
\n
• Guide media-facing narrative development across funding rounds, partnerships, industry trends, launches and regulatory shifts 
\n
• Advise clients directly in meetings with confidence and authority
\n
• Shift accounts away from low-impact output toward strategic earned visibility
\n

2 // Media Relations & Placement Build and maintain strong relationships with:

• Water trade media
\n
• Environmental and infrastructure outlets
\n
• Business and mainstream publications (when relevant)
\n
• Vertical industry outlets
\n
• Lead proactive pitching strategies
\n
• Secure tiered coverage with measurable value
\n
• Expand and maintain segmented media lists

• Identify speaking, awards and contributor opportunities

3 // Content & Narrative Development You are accountable for communications development, quality and positioning across earned media materials, this includes drafting press releases, media advisories, pitches, talking points and backgrounders. The role oversees technical storytelling but is not responsible for drafting engineering documentation or deep technical reporting.

• Evaluate media outcomes and qualitative impact

• Develop coverage recaps demonstrating strategic value

Metrics for Success

Within 90 days:

• Independently lead communications strategy on assigned accounts  
\n
• Lead client PR conversations independently
\n
• Secure consistent strategic placements across portfolio
\n

Qualifications

\n
• 5+ years of experience in public relations or strategic communications
\n
• Demonstrated success securing earned media in both industry and mainstream publications
\n
• Experience pitching business, infrastructure, environmental or technology stories
\n
• Exceptional writing and editorial judgment
\n
• Strong executive presence in client-facing settings
\n
• Ability to translate complex technical topics into compelling narratives
\n
• Experience using Muck Rack or similar media tools
\n
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
\n

Water sector experience is highly valued but not required if you can demonstrate rapid learning ability and experience in adjacent sectors (infrastructure, climate, environmental, industrial, public sector, B2B tech).

• Compensation: $40 to $50 per hour, W-2, approximately 15 to 20 hours per week
