Purchasing Agent

Hipower Systems is a manufacturer of power distribution and power generation equipment. The Purchasing Agent is responsible for being part of the team that manages the company’s procurement activities including sourcing new suppliers, ensuring that the purchased products and materials meet specific technical specifications, negotiating purchase terms, and evaluating supplier performance. The purchasing agent will also be responsible for ensuring timely deliveries and resolving any supply issues or discrepancies. Essential Functions Researching and identifying prospective suppliers Managing vendor/supplier accounts Purchasing inventory for the factory (assembly lines and warehouse) Track and report on expected ship dates and any delays, and work to find an alternative to the equipment needed Maintain approved inventory levels while preventing excess inventory Manage inventory rotation to prevent obsolescence Make recommendations and assist in the implementation of process improvements Forecast inventory requirements Process inventory adjustments Assist in physical inventory counts and reconciliations Resolve invoice discrepancies and approve inventory invoices Liaising with internal project teams and maintaining strong supplier relations. Evaluating products and suppliers according to key business criteria Preparing proposals, requesting quotes, and negotiating purchase terms and conditions. Preparing and issuing purchase orders and agreements Monitoring supplier performance and resolving issues and concerns Inspecting and evaluating the quality of purchased items, as well as resolving overages and shortages Preparing reports and maintaining accurate inventory and procurement records Working closely with internal departments, such as Planning, Engineering, Sales, and Service. Complying with company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards Perform other duties as assigned Competencies, Skills, and Abilities High School diploma or equivalent required Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a similar field preferred. 1+ Years of experience negotiating with suppliers preferred 1+ Years of experience with an MRP system preferred SAP experience preferred Proficient in medium-level Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) Excellent communication skills, oral and written Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with a deadline-oriented atmosphere. Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. Physical Demands Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, using a computer, and office equipment. Ability to walk around the production floor and lift to a maximum of 15 pounds without help. Ability to see peripheral, color, exposed to construction, noise, and temperature extremes.
