Job Description
The Packaging Operator runs vial filling machines, fabrication machines, and secondary packaging equipment, including labeling and semi-automatic packaging machinery, within a regulated pharmaceutical environment. This role focuses on accurate, efficient packaging operations, equipment setup and cleaning, and precise documentation to support high-quality pharmaceutical production.
Responsibilities

• Operate vial filling machines, fabrication machines, and secondary packaging equipment, including labeling and semi-automatic packaging machinery, in accordance with established procedures and GMP standards.
• Clean and set up manufacturing and packaging equipment to ensure readiness for production and compliance with cleanliness requirements.
• Verify that all equipment carries current and appropriate calibration stickers before use.
• Record all required information accurately in logbooks and batch records, maintaining complete and compliant documentation.
• Palletize completed work and transport finished product to the warehouse as needed.
• Complete downtime logs accurately and contemporaneously, documenting reasons and duration of equipment or line stoppages.
• Meet established scrap rate goals by maintaining high levels of quality and minimizing waste.
• Communicate effectively with IPC Operators and relevant team members regarding quality issues, component status, and machine performance.
• Ensure all reconciled labeling materials, including pouch stock, inserts, shipper labels, and waste, are properly accounted for and documented.
• Report mechanical issues and share relevant production information with incoming and outgoing shifts to support smooth handovers.
• Apply knowledge of all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in daily work and follow them consistently.
• Perform visual inspection of products and packaging to confirm compliance with quality standards.
• Use basic tools and equipment safely and correctly to support packaging and production activities.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3 years of pharmaceutical packaging experience.
• Experience operating vial filling machines, fabrication machines, and secondary packaging equipment, including labeling and semi-automatic packaging machinery.
• Working knowledge of GMP practices within a production or cleanroom environment.
• Ability to stand for the majority of the workday.
• Ability to lift or move 25-49 pounds as part of routine duties.
• Ability to gown appropriately for manufacturing and work in a cleanroom setting.
• Basic reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Basic mathematical skills for counts, reconciliations, and production records.
• Basic ability to use tools and equipment related to packaging and production.
• Good manual dexterity for handling components and operating equipment.
• Strong visual acuity for inspection and verification of labels, components, and finished products.
• Attention to detail for accurate documentation in logbooks, batch records, and downtime logs.
• Ability to follow SOPs and apply them consistently in daily operations.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Caldwell, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
