Job Description

Mayta & Sebastian Architecture DPC is an architectural design and consulting firm renowned for its expertise in building design, forensics, and restoration/rehabilitation. We offer new design and restoration services across a diverse range of industries, including residential, commercial, educational, and industrial sectors. As we expand our services to include in-house structural design. We are seeking a Licensed Professional Engineer / Project Engineer with 7+ years of experience with facade restoration, NYC Facade Inspection Safety Program (FISP), roof restoration, parking garages, and NYC Periodic Inspection of Parking Structures (PIPS).

The candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing projects within the decided-upon budget, timeline, and scope. They will also effectively monitor and present project updates to relevant stakeholders, clients, or project team members. The candidate should be able to exercise independent judgment, manage multiple projects, communicate directly with internal project teams, clients and contractors, and provide technical guidance to junior staff while receiving support from senior leadership on complex matters.

Primary responsibilities :

\n

\n
• Communicate with the clients to clearly define the scope of work and budget.
\n
• Develop complete construction documents including drawings, sketches, and specifications.
\n
• Travel to job sites to collect and prepare data for evaluation, review construction work quality and progress, conduct pre-bid meetings and lead construction progress meetings.
\n
• Conduct structural analysis and design for various projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
\n
• Collaborate with the design team to integrate structural solutions seamlessly into overall project designs.
\n
• Provide technical expertise during the project planning phase, offering insights into structural feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
\n
• Review and analyze construction documents, including structural drawings, shop drawings and specifications.
\n
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, fostering their professional development within the architecture and engineering field.
\n
• Actively participate in project meetings, offering technical input and insights to contribute to the overall success of the team and project.
\n
• Develop detailed structural calculations and reports, clearly documenting the rationale behind design decisions.
\n
• Review of contractor submittals and respond to contractor Requests for Information.
\n
• Communicate via phone, email, and sketches to clarify design intent with Contractors and Clients.
\n
• Work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining good client relationships.
\n
• Manage and provide construction administration and oversight including responding to RFI's, preparing sketches and addendums (CCD's), visiting construction sites to gather information, and/or preparing punch lists.
\n
• Track the construction schedule and budget.
\n
• Resolve issues that are discovered in the field.
\n
• Apply sound and diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices in a broad array of assignments.
\n
• Provide technical development of various project types, façade restoration, exterior rehabilitation, historic preservation, forensic investigation, new developments, and interior alterations, etc.
\n
• Responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments.
\n
• Actively participate in a team environment, executing projects independently and with a small group of employees.
\n
• A Project Engineer can expect to be “in the field” between 25% - 75% of their time during any given week.

Experience

\n

\n
• Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with 7+ years of experience with facade restoration, roof restoration, parking garages, and NYC Periodic Inspection Programs (PIPS) is a plus. 
\n
• Must have 7+ years of field experience with historic preservation, restoration, and building envelope projects. Minimum 3 years of experience after licensure.
\n
• Revit and Plangrid experience preferred.
\n

Qualifications

\n

\n
• Must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering
\n
• Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
\n

\n

\n

Salary

\n

\n
• $120,000 to $170,000, based on experience, certifications (QEWI, QPSI, QRWI), and tenure with previous employers.
\n
