RN Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides skilled nursing care for high-risk and high-volume maternal and newborn patients in a fast-paced, high acuity environment. This role includes managing patient care from delivery through postpartum, supporting midwifery clients, private OBs, and community care clinics. The nurse collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams, performs newborn assessments and care, and adheres to established clinical guidelines and protocols. Responsibilities:

• Function as the baby nurse during delivery and provide newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
• Perform newborn assessments including eye care, vitamin K injections, and routine monitoring.
• Administer medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate as needed.
• Float to postpartum and antepartum units and sister facilities as required.
• Utilize electronic fetal monitoring and adhere to EPIC hardstop protocols.
• Support substance recovery and community care clinics as part of patient population.
• Collaborate with midwifery clients and private OB providers.
• Follow AWHONN guidelines for staffing and clinical procedures.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license with at least 1 year of high-risk labor and delivery experience.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Proficiency with electronic fetal monitoring and EPIC system hardstop requirements.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high acuity environment with high patient volume.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Advanced and Intermediate AWHONN certifications.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.

Special Considerations:

• Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
• Float between postpartum, antepartum, and sister facilities providing mother/baby care.
• Strict adherence to staffing guidelines and clinical protocols including EPIC hardstop and AWHONN standards.
• Must be able to manage high-risk patients and perform newborn care during deliveries.

Scheduling:

• Schedule is posted every 6 weeks and designed to meet unit needs.
• Typical patient census averages 15 per day with 31 beds and 4 operating rooms.
