What you'll do
- Prepare, validate, and reconcile payroll inputs and reports (hours, earnings, deductions, taxes) with high accuracy.
- Analyze variances and trends; investigate discrepancies and drive root-cause fixes.
- Build and maintain Excel workbooks (pivot tables, lookups/XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, conditional formulas, data validation, basic macros) for auditing and reporting.
- Document processes, propose improvements, and independently execute small automation/standardization efforts.
- Partner with HR, Finance/Accounting, and external vendors to resolve issues and meet service levels.
- Handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain compliance with payroll, tax, and data-privacy standards.
- Advanced Excel skills (listed above) and confidence working with large data sets.
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills; bias for action and ownership.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through in fast-moving environments.
- Clear written and verbal communication; collaborative approach with cross-functional teams.
- Nice to have: prior payroll experience (multi-state or international), familiarity with HRIS/payroll systems, basic understanding of payroll accounting (accruals, GL reconciliation).
- Bachelor's degree in finance
- Fluency in English, verbal and written
- Intermediate to Advanced software skills and experience with Microsoft Excel, including pivots, lookups, filtering and sorting
- Basic proficiency and experience with Microsoft Word, Power Point and Visio.
