Job Title Psychologist II (Part time) Agency and Location Agency: Dept. Behavioral Health/Develop Location: Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute Job Summary Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute is a 134-bed state psychiatric hospital located in Northern Virginia. Nearly half of the patient population is forensically involved. We seek a licensed clinical psychologist with a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology to provide psychological services focusing on behavior management and modification for individuals hospitalized with serious and persistent mental illness. Responsibilities Serve as an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Assess patients’ psychological stability, needs, and risk factors. Lead the formulation of treatment plans and behavioral interventions. Provide group and individual psychotherapy sessions. Develop, supervise, and evaluate behavioral treatment plans. Conduct and interpret psychological testing; write user‑friendly reports. Conduct forensic mental health evaluations and write comprehensive reports for courts and state forensic mental health boards. Provide psychological consultation and education to hospital staff. Participate in program development and implementation. Training Provided Training and supervision in forensic psychology, including evaluation of competency to stand trial, restoration of competency, mental status at time of offense, and treatment of individuals acquitted by reason of insanity. Qualifications Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited program. Successful completion of an internship accredited by the American Psychological Association or the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral Internship Centers. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing behavioral and treatment plans. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Moral Resonance Therapy. Previous experience in inpatient settings and in forensic mental health treatment. Virginia license as a Clinical Psychologist. Benefits 13 paid holidays. 12 days annual leave.
