NLADA VISTA Leader

Because the quality of justice in America should not depend on how much money a person has, NLADA leads a broad network of advocates on the front lines to advance justice and expand opportunity for all by promoting excellence in the delivery of legal services for people who cannot afford counsel. This VISTA project, Defending Communities in Service, will build sustainable community relationships and data systems and practices that allow participating public defender offices to more holistically support communities in need. The VISTA leader will build capacity within NLADA directly to effectively field a national VISTA project with a network of VISTAs across the country focused on two separate tracks of service: Community Partnerships or Data Systems. The leader will serve as the day‑to‑day point of contact for VISTAs in the national network and conduct weekly group check‑in calls and one‑on‑one calls as needed. The leader will also be responsible for collecting first draft/raw performance measurement data from national network VISTAs and synthesizing it for discussion with the project supervisor. During their time at NLADA, the leader will help create program‑related documents and timelines to be utilized and customized by national network VISTAs. All NLADA‑based and national network VISTA project members will explore opportunities to utilize technology and automation to create communication and data‑sharing channels between public defenders and human services organizations designed to last beyond the period of their projects, with minimal maintenance required. Member Duties The VISTA leader will build capacity within NLADA to effectively field a national VISTA project with members focused on two separate tracks of service. The leader will pay special attention to existing and possible opportunities to engage in partnerships that will help the site to more effectively reduce relapse and recidivism related to the opioid epidemic. They will also help to support national site VISTAs and create documents tracking their projects and service completion success and will explore opportunities to utilize technology and automation to create communication and data‑sharing channels between VISTAs, public defenders, and human services organizations designed to last beyond the period of their projects.
