Security Officer (Defined Term) Defined Term (Fixed Term) position. Recruiting open until filled. Overview Kamehameha Schools is seeking a full‑time Security Officer for the Kahaluu Makai location. This appointment lasts from 1 to 3 years. Job Summary Provides security services for students, faculty, staff, visitors and facilities. Duties include monitoring CCTV cameras, vehicle and foot patrols across campus, enforcing traffic and parking regulations, safety inspections, incident investigation and reporting, supervising access to sacred sites, vendors and public areas, directing visitors and delivery vehicles, and maintaining records of campus entries and exits. Essential Responsibilities Physical Security and Patrols: Maintain a safe and secure environment by following security protocols. Conduct regular vehicle and foot patrols, staying alert to unusual conditions or unauthorized personnel. Monitor CCTV cameras to detect potential risks or incidents. Identify safety or criminal hazards and report promptly. Oversee traffic flow, parking regulations, and crowd control during events and functions. First Response: Respond promptly to emergencies such as workplace violence, intrusions, natural disasters, fires, assaults, or other crises. When necessary, pursue, apprehend, and detain individuals within jurisdictional limits using de‑escalation techniques and defensive training. Compliance and Safety: Make sound decisions in high‑stakes situations to avoid legal implications. Exercise precision and consistency to minimize risks and maintain a legally compliant environment. Access Control and Records Management: Enforce entry restrictions for unauthorized persons or vehicles. Manage visitor and delivery access while keeping detailed records of campus entries and exits. Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with KS security standards. Investigation and Reporting: Investigate and document traffic, on‑campus criminal, and non‑criminal incidents. Provide thorough written reports to support further actions and ensure transparency. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year of related work experience. Valid Hawaii Driver's license and current driving abstract. Current DCCA Guard Employee License or ability to obtain certification within 60 days of hire. Current standard First Aid, CPR and AED certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. Ability to work independently and flexibility for a rotational schedule, including 24/7 availability. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Good interpersonal skills for effective interaction with KS staff, students, parents, and the public. Proficiency in computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, email, and CCTV systems. Competence in typing and computer use for detailed incident reporting. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of 1 year of experience in a security, police, or emergency response role. Security experience within a K‑12 school environment. Knowledge of security‑related software and applications commonly used in the field. Specialized training in crisis intervention, drone operation, defensive tactics, or similar programs. Physical and Mental Requirements Frequent hand‑writing, standing, walking, and carrying or moving objects up to 50 pounds. Occasional desk‑based computer tasks requiring light or fine manipulation. Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, reaching or working above shoulder height or grasping firmly. Working Conditions May involve travel to other locations, including neighboring islands. Work conducted in a school environment and frequently in non‑standard, outdoor settings.
