Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Physicians currently employed by the VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent allopathic or osteopathic degree from an approved school as of the year the study was completed. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any US state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training completed in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification (approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs). OR One year of post‑medical‑school training (internship or first year of residency) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice under an unrestricted license. OR Non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States under an unrestricted license, with duties related to the position. Residents currently enrolled in a licensed residency program who meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under specific conditions. Must be able to lift 15–44 pounds, push, reach above shoulder height, use fingers and both hands, walk and stand for 3–5 hours, and kneel as necessary. Rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously required. Near vision correctable at 13–16 inches to Jaeger 1–4; far vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. Depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors required. Hearing aid permitted. Duties Provide primary care for a diverse group of veterans, diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with typical primary care conditions and completing thorough workups prior to specialty consultation per usual standards of medical practice. Follow VA established clinical and preventive guidelines and document accordingly. Report to the Primary Care Service Section Lead. Work independently, caring for outpatients in an established clinic while coordinating with specialists and other primary care providers for consultation. Cooperate and collaborate fully with other staff members to meet the medical care needs of VAMC patients. Accountable for healthcare outcomes, ethical practice, peer review, and continued professional development to support the mission of the Veterans Health Administration.
