Data Engineer

Data Engineer Location: Madison, Wisconsin (Remote) Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Snowflake Data Engineering Consultant to support the design, development, and optimization of a foundational enterprise HR data warehouse initiative. This role combines hands-on data engineering responsibilities with data architecture, governance, and future-state planning to help establish a scalable analytics platform that will support reporting, advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and machine learning initiatives. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and optimize data pipelines feeding a Snowflake data warehouse. Evaluate and enhance existing data models, schemas, and data architecture for scalability and sustainability. Develop and maintain dimensional data models, including fact and dimension tables. Implement best practices for data governance, automation, and warehouse management. Collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to translate reporting and analytics requirements into technical solutions. Assess current warehouse design and recommend improvements to support future growth and advanced analytics. Develop automation solutions leveraging Snowflake stored procedures and existing ingestion processes. Ensure data quality, integrity, and performance across the data environment. Work independently while partnering closely with a small analytics team. Required Qualifications Strong experience designing and developing solutions in Snowflake. Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling, and dimensional modeling. Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines. Advanced SQL development skills. Experience implementing scalable and sustainable data architectures. Strong understanding of data governance and warehouse best practices. Ability to evaluate existing environments and recommend future-state improvements. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to work independently and drive project outcomes with limited oversight. Preferred Qualifications Experience with HR, workforce, or enterprise reporting data environments. Experience integrating data from Workday or similar HR systems. Experience with Alteryx or comparable data integration platforms. Exposure to Power BI reporting environments.
