Collections Manager - Legal Industry

A highly regarded professional services organization is seeking an experienced Collections Manager to lead day-to-day collections operations and oversee assigned accounts receivable portfolios. This leadership role will drive collection strategy execution, improve cash flow performance, and partner cross-functionally to resolve billing issues and optimize receivables management. Responsibilities Collections Oversee daily collections activity across assigned portfolios, ensuring timely follow-up on outstanding receivables Monitor aging reports, dispute resolution, and account activity to ensure prompt action and resolution Manage escalated or sensitive collection matters Ensure adherence to billing terms, client requirements, and internal policies Accounts Receivable Operations Oversee AR workflows, including payment application processes and operational controls Ensure accuracy and integrity of receivables balances Drive process consistency and quality across AR operations Serve as escalation point for payment and account reconciliation issues Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop collections and AR professionals Set priorities and monitor team performance against established KPIs Provide coaching to enhance communication effectiveness and collection outcomes Support onboarding and ongoing staff development Cross-Functional Partnership Collaborate with finance, billing, client service, and operational stakeholders to resolve account issues Support account strategy discussions for complex receivables matters Provide reporting and portfolio updates to senior leadership Process Improvement Identify trends impacting collections performance Recommend workflow enhancements to improve cash realization and reduce aging Support operational improvement initiatives and systems enhancements Ensure strong documentation and compliance with internal controls Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience 7+ years of collections experience within legal services, professional services, or similarly complex billing environments Prior experience managing teams and driving performance Strong knowledge of billing, receivables management, and dispute resolution Experience with enterprise financial systems (e.g., Aderant or similar platforms) preferred Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Why Consider This Opportunity High-visibility leadership role Collaborative and stable professional environment Opportunity to drive operational improvements and strategic impact Competitive compensation and long-term growth potential This newly created position, driven by internal team progression, offers a competitive base salary in the $150,000 – $165,000 range and provides oversight of a mid-sized team.
