Executive Director, SCI Office of Community Outreach and Engagement
$100kStanford University
Executive Director, Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, Stanford Cancer Institute - Hybrid Background: The Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) is a national and international leader in cancer research across the cancer control continuum, with a strong commitment to serving the more than 7.8 million people in the San Francisco Bay Area through cutting-edge patient-centered cancer care, innovative research, cancer-focused community outreach and engagement, and impactful research translation. Our catchment area, where 79% of our patients reside, includes 10 geographically adjacent and highly diverse counties with respect to race/ethnicity, age, immigrant status, and population density. Community partners, COE staff, and SCI leadership defined our high priority cancers for research and control over the short term (breast, lung, pancreas, colorectal, prostate), as well as priority targets for cancer prevention including obesity and tobacco control. Position Summary: The Executive Director (Academic Program Professional 3) will be responsible for leading the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement at the Stanford Cancer Institute. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to direct a multi-level collaborative effort to reduce the overall cancer burden and cancer disparities in our catchment area and beyond. This position will work closely with the Associate Director of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE), Professor Alyce S. Adams, and other leaders to align SCI research with the needs of the communities living in the 10 counties in Northern California served by SCI. Under the supervision of the AD, the position will execute the COE strategic plan to carry out community outreach and engagement activities as articulated in the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. Aims of SCI COE are to: 1. Understand and monitor the cancer burden, 2. Developing bidirectional relationships to advance cancer control in the community, 3. Fostering research, including enhancing representation in clinical trials, and 4. Translating research into practice and policy change that promote community health. The short and long-term impact of the proposed activities will be evaluated using theoretically and empirically supported frameworks and metrics in close collaboration with the SCI Community Advisory Board, community partners and SCI leadership. This position will work collaboratively with the rest of the SCI leadership team to lead the COE administrative structure, develop processes and to lead key initiatives.
