Part-Time Substitute Librarian $30.00 hour- Depending on qualifications – Part-time General Summary The Substitute Librarian is an entry level professional position with the Pearl River Public Library. This is a substitute position and is scheduled as follow Tuesday 3-9pm, Thursday 3-9pm, Saturday and Sunday rotations (Approximately 1 Saturday and 1 Sunday) hours are a max amount of 17.5 hours; Librarians in this position provide high-quality customer services to the library’s diverse clientele. Duties may include a wide variety of potential assignments serving Adults Services Department. Assignments include public services (reference, reader’s advisory, and collection development). Essential Functions The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Provide excellent customer service to customers of all ages. Communicate effectively with customers, staff, and administration. Promote library activities to the public. Perform related work as required and assigned. This is a substitute position and is scheduled as needed for coverage. Typical Qualifications KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of basic library principles, trends, functions, and procedures and knowledge and understanding of issues and requirements of the specific library program assigned. SKILL: Excellent customer service skills; management skills including project management skills. Skill in using technology and aiding users. ABILITY: Creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner; communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; work with diverse groups of customers and volunteers of all ages; create and maintain positive staff relationships; lead effectively by example, inspire staff, and promote enthusiastic teamwork; demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and the community; multi-task and set priorities; demonstrate innovation and flexibility; work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
