The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) is the largest department on campus, employing more than 130 faculty and staff, and serving 3,200+ undergraduates, 700+ graduate students, and 60+ staff members. Responsibilities Academic Advising (30%) Identify and refer complex student issues, including discrimination, grade disputes, personal crises, and petition exceptions, to appropriate departments. Advise students in EECS, ECE, and CDSS Computer Science majors on academic policies, resources, research, mentoring, scholarships, internships, and career planning. Outreach to students struggling in EECS courses, referring them to support resources and developing strategies to improve study habits. Assist with the EIS Minor, advising on the track for CDSS CS majors when approved. Administer all aspects of the EECS/CS minor program, including declaration and completion certification. Program Oversight (30%) Improve scheduling and enrollment management, addressing one of the largest caseloads on campus. Collaborate with faculty and departments to design curriculum, evaluate course requirements, and plan course offerings based on enrollment trends. Secure classrooms, balancing campus scheduling constraints, equipment needs, and faculty preferences. Coordinate faculty teaching workloads and support programmatic matters for the division’s undergraduate program. Recruitment & Admissions (20%) Develop outreach strategies and identify target institutions to meet department goals. Advise on admissions for EECS, ECE, and CS majors, including transferability of non‑UC Berkeley courses. Coordinate Cal Day, Golden Bear Orientation, Welcome, and recruitment events. Plan and lead student events such as commencement reception and department workshops. Policy & Enrollment (15%) Advise chairs and deans on policy formulation, future changes, and implementation. Recommend enrollment policies, manage enrollment limits, and adjust registrations to reflect priorities. Prepare and submit course approval forms to the Academic Senate Committee. Analyze student progress and recommend interventions, collaborating with faculty on curricular matters. Professional Development (5%) Participate in student services committees shaping nationwide policies. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of college student affairs and best practices through coursework and meetings. Required Qualifications Advanced advising and counseling techniques. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with computer applications and University policy tools. Interpersonal and multicultural competencies. Advanced knowledge of visa and immigration policies for international students. Problem‑identification and solution‑development skills. Project management and process improvement abilities. Knowledge of post‑degree employment opportunities in the field. Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
