Respiratory Therapist I

Full Time Job Summary The Licensed Respiratory Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates the delivery of respiratory care services using processes in accordance with hospital standards and department policies to monitor and evaluate patient status. Minimum Education Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program. Licensure, Registration and Certification Valid Oklahoma Provisional / Respiratory Care Practitioner License (RCP) or temporary letter to practice issued by the Oklahoma Medical Board. Certified / Registered Respiratory Therapist (CRT/RRT) credential through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). Basic Life Support (BLS) within 2 months of hire. Work Experience 0 - 6 months related experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Medication administration via nebulizer or metered dose inhaler Humidity and aerosol therapy Medical gas administration Incentive spirometry Respiratory Mechanics PEP therapy Pulse oximetry Chest Physiotherapy CPR Mechanical Ventilation Intubation Extubation Suctioning Bronchoscopy Assist Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Detail-oriented examination of clinical and numerical data Basic PC skills for data entry and documentation Essential Functions and Responsibilities Assesses and delivers care/interventions to patients in non-critical care areas, considering patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors. Performs computer entry, verifies physician orders, and documents clinical information. Provides accurate documentation in the medical record. Provides care effectively to patients in critical care areas, including mechanical ventilation (invasive/non-invasive), monitoring, and ventilator maintenance. Communicates effectively with the healthcare team, delegates and supervises tasks as appropriate, and demonstrates professional judgment. Maintains respectful relationships with patients, families, and staff. Supports departmental goals through in-services, education standards, and variance reports. Organizes, prioritizes, and performs skills appropriate for the patient population. Responds to code blues, RIT/CRIT calls, and transports promptly. Mentors new personnel, monitors quality of patient care, and participates in projects to improve patient outcomes. Decision Making Independent judgment in planning operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. Working Relationships Coordinates activities of others, leads others in same work performed, works directly with patients and/or customers, interacts with internal and external customers, and collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff.
