Accounting ManagerThe Accounting Manager will play a central role in operating and strengthening the accounting function during a period of continued growth and maturation. Working in close partnership with the Controller, this role is for someone who takes the time to understand existing processes, exercises sound judgment in evolving environments, and then thoughtfully improves structure, controls, and reliability over time.The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of accounting operations, month-end close, and own the invoicing process, while contributing to longer term improvements.This is a lean team, the right person operates with a high degree of independence- spotting issues, making sound judgment calls, and driving resolution without waiting to be directed. This is a role for a self-starter who takes ownership of their domain.Responsibilities:Manage the month-end close process end-to-end, ensuring accuracy and timelinessPrepare and review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliationsEstablish, maintain, and enforce close calendars and deadlinesEnsure financial records are complete, accurate, and well supportedOwn the invoicing process end-to-endCompile monthly billable expenses/pass-throughs, ensuring complete and timely receipt submission and coding/tagging ahead of month-endOversee and review coding and documentation for accuracy and proper scope of invoicingOversee day-to-day accounting activities including AP, AR, and general ledgerManage and actively develop the Staff Accountant, providing both quality oversight and hands-on skill-building over timeAssess resourcing needs over time and provide recommendations as the organization growsEvaluate existing accounting processes and systemsIdentify opportunities to improve efficiency, controls, and reliabilityAccounting issues are identified early, resolved thoughtfully, and prevented from recurrenceImplement improvements in a deliberate, sequenced manner that supports business continuityPartner with the Controller on reporting enhancements and future systems initiativesServe as a key accounting partner to cross-functional teams, including close collaboration on billing workflows, and shared reporting needsSupport audit readiness and compliance as the company maturesAssist the Controller with internal and external reporting as neededProvide ad-hoc support on FP&A analyses and other finance initiativesQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field6–10 years of progressive accounting experienceStrong working knowledge of US GAAPDemonstrated ownership of month-end close processesExperience managing or mentoring accounting resourcesComfort operating in a high-growth, evolving, early-stage environment with a wide range of responsibilities and that uses AI tools to support daily tasks and projectsDemonstrated ownership mindset; takes accountability for outcomes, self-directs priorities, and follows through without close supervisionQuickBooks or similar accounting systems experience preferredBill.com experience a plusExcellent written and verbal communication skillsLife sciences or clinical research industry experience a plus, but not requiredCPA a plus but not requiredAt 20/20 Onsite, we see differently.
