Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Current educational interpreter certification issued by the Louisiana Department of Education
• Proven experience interpreting in K-12 school settings is highly preferred
• In-depth knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with various communication modes used by Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
• Ability to collaborate seamlessly with educators, support staff, and other interpreters
• Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic school environment and varying assignment types

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide effective interpreting services in classrooms, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities as needed
• Serve as a communication link between students, teachers, and school staff
• Assist in fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment that honors students’ diverse needs
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting standards at all times
• Participate in team meetings and professional development activities alongside fellow interpreters and contractors
