Worship Ministry Director

Summary:

Bethlehem Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a Spirit-led, doctrinally sound, spiritually mature, and musically gifted leader to help shape the next chapter of our worship ministry. We are a growing church committed to making disciples, reaching families, investing in the next generation, and advancing the Gospel through local and global missions.

Our worship services reflect who we are as a church—servant-hearted, Kingdom-minded, and Christ-focused. We value congregational participation and embrace a blend of biblically rich hymns, praise and worship music, and other Christ-centered songs that help our congregation glorify God together.

This position offers a unique opportunity to build and develop a growing worship ministry. The Worship Ministry Director will help recruit, disciple, equip, and mentor musicians and vocalists and create opportunities for children, youth, and adults to participate in worship leadership. We are open to a variety of ministry models, including a praise band, a choir, or a combination of both, and we desire a leader who can cultivate what God has already established while helping lead us into the future with wisdom, humility, and vision.

Bethlehem Baptist Church believes that character, spiritual maturity, and a vibrant walk with Christ are more important than musical talent alone. We are seeking a worship leader who models godly leadership, discipleship, humility, and servant-hearted ministry. Musical ability is essential, but spiritual leadership is paramount.

This is a flexible role with space for vision, creativity, ministry development, and pastoral leadership (if applicable).

The ideal candidate will view this role not simply as leading worship services, but as helping build a thriving worship ministry that supports the growth and mission of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Plan and lead weekly Sunday worship services in collaboration with the Pastor or other church staff.
• Select songs that reflect sound theology.
• Organize and lead rehearsals for instrumentalists, vocalists, and/or choir.
• Encourage and develop current volunteers while recruiting new team members.
• Build a healthy culture of worship that emphasizes participation and bringing worship to the Lord rather than performance.
• Coordinate music for special services, including Christmas, Easter, funerals, and revivals.
• Maintain song and chord chart library and digital tools (e.g., Planning Center or similar).=
• If ordained or interested in pastoral leadership, assist with other areas of ministry such as pastoral care, outreach, or spiritual development.
• Develop, mentor, and disciple current and future worship leaders, musicians, and vocalists, creating a sustainable culture of leadership multiplication and spiritual growth within the worship ministry.
• Encourage participation in worship ministry among children, youth, and adults, helping cultivate the next generation of worship leaders and servants.

Other Duties and Ministry Support

As a full-time member of the ministry staff, the Worship Ministry Director will also support Bethlehem Baptist Church’s overall mission beyond Sunday worship. These additional responsibilities will be shaped in collaboration with the Senior Pastor and may include:

• Pastoral Support: Assist the Senior Pastor with hospital visits, funeral services, or pastoral care as needed, particularly for worship ministry participants or church members.
• Discipleship and Spiritual Growth: Lead or support Bible studies, prayer gatherings, or small groups as time and gifting allow. Help nurture spiritual growth within the worship team and broader congregation.
• Outreach and Evangelism: Support church outreach efforts and represent the church in community events, particularly those involving music or seasonal programs.
• Technology and Communication: Oversee or assist with church-wide communication related to worship (slides, livestream, website updates, social media promotion of services or events, etc.).
• Special Events Coordination: Work with other ministry leaders to plan and implement church events such as revivals, holiday celebrations, or mission-focused services.
• Staff Collaboration: Participate in weekly staff meetings, strategic planning sessions, and vision-setting conversations. Offer insight and encouragement as part of a collaborative leadership team.

These responsibilities are not exhaustive and may evolve based on the Worship Ministry Director’s strengths and the church’s changing needs. The goal is for this role to contribute meaningfully to the overall shepherding and ministry life of the church , helping create a cohesive and mission-driven staff culture.

Spiritual & Personal Qualifications:

• A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and evidence of spiritual maturity.
• Passion for congregational worship as a response to God’s glory, not performance.
• Relational and humble leadership style; integrity over showmanship.
• A shepherd’s heart for volunteers; someone who builds people, not just programs.
• A commitment to prayer, scripture, and discipleship as foundational to ministry.
• Demonstrates a consistent and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by personal integrity, spiritual discipline, servant leadership, and a commitment to Biblical discipleship.
• Understands that worship ministry is first about shepherding people and glorifying God rather than musical performance or personal platform.
• Affirms and supports the doctrinal beliefs and mission of Bethlehem Baptist Church and is willing to serve in alignment with the church’s statement of faith.

Professional Qualifications:

• Ability to lead with vocals from piano or guitar preferred.
• Able to read music and adapt arrangements for volunteers.
• Experience leading worship in a church setting.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Experience in worship planning, volunteer coordination, and media/tech.
