The Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable professional to serve as its next Plans Examiner. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator and problem-solver who can interpret complex codes, collaborate with developers and design professionals, and contribute to public education on building standards and floodplain management. Key Responsibilities:
- Review construction plans for code compliance in structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
- Conduct site visits and provide technical guidance to architects, engineers, and property owners.
- Support floodplain management and Community Rating System (CRS) initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with public awareness efforts related to building codes.
- Respond to inquiries and resolve issues with professionalism and efficiency.
- High school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination).
- ICC Certification in Residential and Commercial Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Electrical-or Certified Building Official.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, inspection techniques, and applicable codes.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under time-sensitive deadlines.
