Senior Consultant - Data Platforms - REMOTE

Senior ConsultantFortified Data is seeking a Senior Consultant to lead data warehouse and modern data platform work within our Professional Services team. You will design and deliver data warehouse and lakehouse solutions on Databricks, Snowflake, and Microsoft Fabric, and lead clients through modernizing legacy reporting and data environments. You will lead technical discovery alongside Account Executives, advise client technical and business leaders, guide other consultants on delivery, and help shape how Fortified Data grows its data platform practice.Fortified Data is an equal opportunity employer. Eligible candidates must provide evidence of legal working status for any employer in the U.S.Duties and Essential Job FunctionsLead Professional Services engagements for data warehouse and lakehouse design, build, and modernization on Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure data services, from discovery through delivery.Design target-state data architectures, including dimensional and medallion data models, ingestion and transformation patterns, and data governance approaches.Lead migrations of legacy data warehouses and reporting environments, such as SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, and Oracle, to modern platforms, owning the migration approach, risk plan, and cutover.Lead technical discovery with Account Executives, qualify opportunities, and present recommendations to client technical and business leaders.Own technical scoping, solution design, and effort estimates for data platform proposals and statements of work.Serve as the escalation point for complex data platform issues across Professional Services engagements.Set performance and cost optimization practices on consumption-based platforms, including workload sizing, query tuning, and cost governance.Mentor consultants and DBAs who are building data platform skills, and review their technical work.Help build Fortified Data's data platform practice, including reference architectures, delivery accelerators, and repeatable engagement offerings.Advise clients on the AI readiness of their data estate, including data quality, governance, and platform fit.Identify expansion opportunities and partner with the account team and Managed Services on ongoing client support.Contribute to thought leadership through blog posts, webinars, and case studies.Measures of SuccessThis role will be evaluated against annual objectives set in partnership with leadership. Representative measures include:Billable utilization against target.Client satisfaction and repeat business on data platform engagements.Influenced pipeline and closed bookings for data platform work.Growth of the data platform practice, including reference architectures, offerings, and certified team members.Number and quality of thought leadership contributions delivered annually.Required ExperienceEight or more years in data engineering, data warehousing, or database architecture, including at least three years delivering cloud data platform projects.Led end-to-end delivery of data warehouse or lakehouse implementations on Databricks or Snowflake, with working knowledge of the other or of Microsoft Fabric.Deep expertise in data modeling for analytics, including dimensional modeling.Expert SQL skills and strong Python or PySpark skills.Experience migrating legacy data warehouses or ETL processes to cloud data platforms.Strong experience with Microsoft Azure data services.Client-facing consulting experience, including leading discovery, scoping work, and presenting recommendations to technical and business leaders.Experience mentoring or guiding other engineers on technical delivery.Preferred ExperienceProfessional-level Databricks, Snowflake, or Microsoft Fabric certification.Experience in a consulting firm or managed services provider.Experience with orchestration and transformation tools such as Azure Data Factory, Fabric Data Factory, or dbt.Experience with data governance and catalog tools such as Unity Catalog or Microsoft Purview.Experience supporting AI and machine learning workloads on modern data platforms.Experience with AWS or Google Cloud data services.Experience contributing to thought leadership, such as published content, webinars, or conference talks.Required AttributesAssertiveness: Holds a clear, evidence-based position with senior client stakeholders, and pushes back respectfully when a client or colleague is heading toward a risky decision.Client Leadership: Earns trust with client engineers and executives alike, explains technical choices in business terms, and guides clients to a decision.Strategic Thinking: Connects technical design to client business outcomes and to how Fortified Data can grow its data platform offerings.Problem Solving: Breaks complex problems into parts, evaluates options with evidence, and moves toward a workable solution.Ownership: Takes full accountability for engagement outcomes, raises issues early, and develops the people working alongside them.Work EnvironmentWe are a 100% remote company.Travel of up to 15 percent may be required for client engagements and company events.
