Senior Billing Specialist

IG Consulting is seeking a highly skilled Senior Billing Specialist to own complex customer billing for consulting and project-based engagements. This is not a traditional invoice-processing role. The successful candidate will manage sophisticated billing arrangements, interpret customer requirements, partner with demanding internal and external stakeholders, and help protect revenue through accurate, timely, and well-supported billing execution. This individual must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly; customer expectations are high, and billing requirements are often nuanced. The ideal candidate can work through gray areas, ask the right questions, solve problems independently, and communicate confidently with Sales, Consulting Delivery, Finance, and Customers. What You Will Do Own end-to-end billing for a portfolio of consulting engagements, including milestone-based, fixed-fee, percentage-of-completion, recurring, and customer-specific billing arrangements. Review contracts, statements of work, amendments, change orders, purchase orders, and customer billing instructions to determine accurate billing treatment. Prepare invoices with proper support, documentation, milestone validation, and customer-required detail. Track billing opportunities, project milestones, unbilled revenue, customer acceptance requirements, and potential revenue leakage. Ensure billing is completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with customer requirements and internal controls. Partner Across the Business Serve as a trusted billing partner to Sales, Consulting Delivery, Project Managers, Finance, and Customers. Work closely with internal teams to validate deliverables, resolve billing blockers, and obtain required approvals or support. Communicate proactively regarding billing risks, missing documentation, customer concerns, and month-end priorities. Influence stakeholders professionally when documentation is incomplete, billing terms are unclear, or customer expectations conflict with contract requirements. Solve Problems and Navigate Ambiguity Investigate complex billing discrepancies, customer disputes, contract interpretation questions, and process gaps. Identify root causes of recurring billing issues and recommend sustainable process improvements. Use sound judgment when working through incomplete information, changing project scope, and unclear customer requirements. Escalate risks appropriately while also bringing thoughtful recommendations and proposed solutions. Support Revenue Operations Excellence Maintain accurate billing schedules, trackers, reconciliations, and supporting documentation. Support month-end close priorities by helping ensure billable activity is identified, validated, and invoiced timely. Partner with cross-functional teams to improve billing accuracy, customer satisfaction, scalability, and control discipline. Leverage technology, reporting tools, and AI-enabled productivity tools to research, summarize, reconcile, and improve billing workflows. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of critical, complex billing experience in a project-based, consulting, professional services, construction, engineering, managed services, technology implementation, or similarly complex billing environment. Direct experience with milestone-based billing, percentage-of-completion billing, fixed-fee project billing, customer-specific invoice requirements, or other non-standard billing structures. Experience reviewing contracts, SOWs, purchase orders, change orders, or customer billing instructions to determine appropriate billing actions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate discrepancies, connect information from multiple sources, and recommend practical solutions. Proven ability to operate effectively in a high-paced environment with competing priorities, tight timelines, demanding stakeholders, and changing requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain billing issues clearly and professionally to internal teams and customers. High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and demonstrated ownership of work from issue identification through resolution. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including filtering, PivotTables, lookups, reconciliations, and data review. Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel. Ability and willingness to use AI-enabled productivity tools, including Microsoft Copilot and Claude, to support research, summarization, reconciliation, documentation, issue tracking, and workflow efficiency, while maintaining appropriate judgment and data-quality review. Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of relevant education, professional training, and complex billing experience may be considered. Coursework or professional experience in accounting, revenue operations, contract administration, project accounting, or financial operations is strongly preferred. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting consulting, professional services, managed services, staffing, technology, engineering, construction, or other project-based businesses. Experience with ERP, billing, project accounting, CRM, or revenue operations systems. Experience supporting large enterprise customers with customized invoicing, portal billing, purchase order requirements, backup documentation, and dispute processes. Familiarity with revenue operations, unbilled revenue tracking, customer acceptance milestones, credit memo support, and billing-related controls.
