Details Med/Surg Telemetry unit caring for adult patients with a variety of conditions and diagnoses under the Family Medicine service Geriatric patient population Unit includes a locked wing for Department of Corrections (DOC) patients (0-10 at any given time), with staff accompanied by DOC officers during care Day or night 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 or 1900-0730) with every other weekend rotation and holiday coverage as needed Floating required as needed Uses Epic EMR Requirements Active WI or compact RN license required BLS certification required (AHA only) 2 years of acute care RN experience within the last 3 years in the specialty required Experience starting and maintaining IVs required Epic EMR experience required, preferably within the past 12 months Must pass a telemetry competency exam prior to starting, including strict criteria on rhythm identification and heart block interpretation First-time travelers considered only with 5 years of previous inpatient med/surg experience Additional Information Provide med/surg and telemetry nursing care including cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV therapy, and medication administration (including heparin, insulin, and PCA) Additional skills such as central line blood draws, PICC line management, feeding tube care, wound care/wound vac, and substance withdrawal management are preferred Experience with previous law enforcement patient populations is a plus given the DOC patient care component Must reside within 50 miles of the facility; local candidates not accepted Located at University Hospital, 600 Highland Ave, Madison, WI, a Magnet-designated facility ranked as Wisconsin's 1 hospital American Traveler Job ID P-749948.
