About the Role
The Company is seeking an inaugural Chief Development Officer (CDO) for the Manning Institute of Biotechnology. The CDO will be responsible for building and leading a comprehensive philanthropic program, with a focus on transforming scientific discoveries into medical treatments. This role involves strategic leadership, campaign planning, and the establishment of fundraising priorities that align with the Institute's mission. The successful candidate will work closely with the Institute's leadership, faculty, and the Senior Associate Vice President for Health Development to engage in all aspects of fundraising, including prospect development, portfolio management, and the creation of high-quality donor-facing materials. The CDO will also be tasked with launching an Advisory Board and creating a network of champions and donors to support the Institute's vision. Applicants for the CDO position at the Company should have a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8-10 years' of development experience, with a proven track record in securing major and principal gifts. A background in academic medical centers, higher education, or a complex nonprofit or research organization is required. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, the ability to work across organizational boundaries, and a strong commitment to the values of the University. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree, experience in biomedical research or a related technical field, and existing networks in the biotechnology, life sciences, or healthcare philanthropy communities. The role demands a high level of project management skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
