Job Summary:

This is a 13-week contract position for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a Medical Surgical unit. The LPN will be responsible for providing nursing care to medical patients, including those with COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues, under the support of a Registered Nurse. The role involves administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Responsibilities:

- Taking patient assignments with RN support.
- Monitoring vital signs, pain assessment, and intake/output.
- Implementing isolation precautions and managing physical restraints.
- Labeling specimens and administering oxygen via nasal cannula.
- Managing feeding tubes and monitoring telemetry.
- Performing 12-lead EKGs.
- Administering medications (oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops).
- Providing IV therapy with pumps and monitoring blood glucose.
- Performing basic wound care (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains).
- Assisting with bathing and mouth care.
- Inserting Foley catheters (male/female) and collecting clean catch urine specimens.
- Communicating status changes to RN/MD.
- Floating within skillset as required.
- Charting in EPIC.

Required Skills & Certifications:

- Active New York Single State LPN license (NY is not Compact).
- BLS certification.
- Minimum 2 years of recent Acute Care experience.
- Ability to take own patient assignment with RN support.
- Experience with vital signs, pain assessment, and intake/output monitoring.
- Experience with medication administration (oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops).
- Experience with IV therapy with pumps and blood glucose monitoring.
- Experience with wound care basics (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains).
- Experience with Foley catheter insertion (male/female) and clean catch urine collection.
- Experience with Telemetry monitoring, 12-lead EKG

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- EPIC charting experience.

Special Considerations:

- Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed.
- Must submit RTO/Block & Special Scheduling Requests upon submission.
- The client may cancel (call off) up to three shifts during a 13-week contract period without incurring charges for the canceled hours.
- Required to float within skillset.

Scheduling:
- Nights 1900-0700.
- 13-week contract.
- Every other weekend.
