Behavioral Health Medical Director – Psychiatrist (Louisiana Market) Location: This position enables associates to work virtually full-time, with the exception of required in‑person training sessions. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the posting location(s) unless an accommodation is granted as required by law. Ideal candidates will live in Louisiana, but other locations may be considered. Responsibilities Collaborate with care management teams and consult with providers to determine medical necessity using established criteria. Conduct chart reviews, documentation, and peer‑to‑peer discussions as needed. Participate in quality initiatives and program‑related projects. Support clinicians to ensure timely and consistent responses to members and providers. Provide guidance for clinical operational aspects of the program. Conduct peer‑to‑peer clinical reviews with attending physicians or other providers to discuss review determinations. Represent the company to external entities and serve on internal and/or external committees; may chair company committees. Interpret medical policies and clinical guidelines, and develop new policies in response to healthcare changes. Lead, develop, direct, and implement clinical and non‑clinical activities that impact health care quality, cost, and outcomes. Identify and develop opportunities for innovation to increase effectiveness and quality. Minimum Requirements MD or DO with board certification approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Active, unrestricted medical license to practice medicine in the United States. Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. For Health Solutions and Carelon organizations only, a minimum of 5 years of experience providing health care is required. Must be located in a U.S. state or territory when conducting utilization review or appeals; cannot be located on a U.S. military base, vessel, or embassy. Preferred Qualifications Ability to obtain a Louisiana medical license. Child and Adolescent board certification or substantial experience. Background in applied behavior analysis (ABA) or openness to expanding into ABA work.
