Full-Time Faculty, Nursing Program

Position Title Instructor/Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Nursing Reports to: BSN Program Director Classification: Full-time; 9-month annual faculty contract FLSA Status: Exempt Job Purpose The full‑time faculty within the Nursing Program is directly responsible for delivering the curriculum while reflecting the program’s philosophy, theoretical constructs, course descriptions, program learning outcomes, and student learning outcomes in conjunction with the Nursing Program Director. The faculty will ensure the curriculum adheres to the accreditation standards and NCBON rules and regulations. The focus of the faculty role is on teaching with additional responsibilities in scholarship and service to be a contributing member of the University. Duties and Responsibilities Personnel Participates in faculty hiring and recommends adjunct faculty. Arranges coverage of classes during own absences and emergency leaves. Maintains minimum office hours per week for student counseling and advising. Functions as Lead Faculty for assigned courses and evaluates adjunct faculty instruction. Models professional behavior and standards of practice. Budget Recommends equipment, software purchases, and maintenance contracts. Participates in the budget planning process. Administration Attends and participates in department meetings and accreditation reviews. Develops programs, evaluates and revises student policies and curricular offerings. Publicizes and disseminates program information. Recruits, orients, and coordinates adjunct faculty and students. Committee and Meeting Responsibilities Member of the BSN Faculty and Curriculum Committee. Member of the Nursing Advisory Committee. Participates in university-wide committees as assigned and annual admissions meetings. Advising Advisor for sophomore pre‑nursing students and enrolled nursing students. Assists students with course scheduling and academic development. Develops remediation plans and meets regularly with at‑risk students. Guides students in utilizing resources for success. Curriculum Implements syllabi and submits suggestions for changes to master syllabi. Designs and implements new curriculum and participates in curriculum evaluation. Teaching Load Teaching load will not exceed 15–18 contact hours per semester without faculty approval. Instruction Maintains classroom control and develops assigned course and clinical syllabi. Uses diverse teaching methods and designs laboratory/SIM instruction. Provides opportunities for active student involvement and demonstrates subject matter command. Conducts clinical supervision in affiliated agencies, including orientation, assignments, patient‑care supervision, conferences, evaluation, and feedback. Evaluation Provides evaluations of students in didactic and clinical courses. Participates in peer evaluations and evaluations of the Nursing Program Director and staff. Reviews student evaluation summaries and uses feedback for course improvement. Participates in program planning in response to student feedback, clinical feedback, and employer satisfaction surveys. Other Duties Performs other duties as assigned. Education & Licensure Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a registered nurse in North Carolina. MSN required; Doctoral degree preferred. Requires achievement of NC Nursing Education hours per Rule NCAC 36 .0318 FACULTY within next 3 years. Applicants with an MSN only will be considered for the rank of Instructor and must agree to start doctoral studies within one year of hire. Experience At least two years nursing practice as registered nurse within the last ten years. Previous nursing teaching experience preferred. Knowledge and Functional Abilities Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills. Functional ability to conduct clinical and laboratory teaching responsibilities. Competence in clinical skills for teaching. Computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email. Health and Safety Requirements Successful completion of criminal background check and drug screening. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). Evidence of yearly tuberculin skin tests and required immunizations per nursing program policy. Physical Requirements Lift, push, pull, or carry 50 lbs. Endure 10‑hour clinical shifts in inpatient and outpatient facilities.
