Three (3) years of experience in an office or customer-service setting. Promotional Qualifications One (1) year permanent or contingent permanent competitive class status as Program Assistant Academics II. Two (2) years permanent or contingent permanent competitive class status as Program Assistant Academics I. Residency Requirements Candidates must have been a legal resident of New York State for at least four (4) months immediately preceding the qualifying test and, preferably, have been a resident of the municipality where the appointment is made for at least four (4) months preceding the written test. Provisional Appointment This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidates must sit for, pass, and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Program Assistant Academics III to be considered for permanent appointment. Responsibilities Under the general supervision of the Department Chair or other academic supervisor, provide high-level clerical or paraprofessional assistance to students, faculty, and administration of one or more academic departments. Communicate directly with the professional community regarding program-specific information. Communicate with prospective students regarding the admission process for the EAM department. Assist the Department Chair with data development and writing for annual reports and program reviews. Assist the Department Chair with budget preparation, gathering and organizing data. Design and maintain complex file structures and data-retrieval methods. Produce routine and ad-hoc reports from office file structures. Develop and monitor office protocols and priorities for maximizing office productivity. Develop and communicate information for faculty regarding academic policies. Assist faculty with formatting and reproduction of course material. Utilize MS office or other office software to design, develop and produce required documents and records. Participate in all department meetings. Perform other duties as assigned by the EAM Department Chairperson. Employment Details Full-time, 40-hour work week. Hourly rate: $22.29.
