Financial Aid Counselor

Location Kennesaw campus: 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Marietta campus: 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060. Job Summary Responsible for processing financial aid for students by reviewing documents, evaluating eligibility and awarding various types of federal and state financial aid. Responsible for meeting with students and families to explain the financial aid process, along with answering questions regarding financial aid awards and required documents. Responsibilities Provides assistance to students and parents/guardians who are seeking and/or receiving financial aid Advises students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, available financial aid programs, educational costs, and financial management strategies, including loans, financing options, and other financial aid related matters Counsels students and parents/guardians regarding financing an education at the University Reviews student applications for accuracy and completeness Ensures compliance with laws and regulations regarding financial aid Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves issues related to transactions Researches and assists with issue resolution related to federal and state systems Maintains appropriate documentation via data entry system (Campus Logic, NOLIJ, Banner, etc.) Participates in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures that impact the efficiency and quality of services provided Required Qualifications Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Required Experience: On-the-job training provided. Preferred Qualifications Working and tested knowledge of Banner (Ellucian) preferred. An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field preferred. Previous Financial Aid Office experience preferred. Previously customer service experience preferred. Experience working with student populations preferred. Salary and Benefits Proposed Salary: The salary range for this role begins at $19.60 per hour. Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of financial aid at the federal, state, and institutional levels. Working knowledge of and abides by the regulations of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended (HEA). Understanding of CPS, EDE, NSLDS, COD, Surfer. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to financial aid; attends seminars, conferences, workshops and other training sessions. Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, technology, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills. Strong conflict management and resolution skills, specifically the ability to diffuse difficult, angry, or emotional situations with individuals. Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (Microsoft Office suite, BANNER, NolijWeb, etc.). Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills.
