JOB SUMMARY: 

The Administrative Clinical Supervisor manages clinical and administrative operations in the hospital during off hours and weekends. Responsibilities require knowledge of hospital/nursing policies and procedures, excellent organizational and communication skills, and collaboration with the providers, staff, department directors and the administrator on-call. The Administrative Clinical Supervisor oversees the flow of patients throughout the hospital and provides supervision and support to the hospital’s patient care areas.

DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:

The Administrative Clinical Supervisor represents hospital administration during off hours and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

EDUCATION:

• Graduate of an accredited RN program, BSN preferred.

EXPERIENCE/SKILL SETS:

• Proven leadership and time management skills required.
• Emergency/Critical Care nursing experience preferred.
• Clinical management experience preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION(S):

• Vermont RN license
• BLS Required
• ACLS required
• PALS preferred
• NRP preferred

• Provides leadership and oversite for all clinical areas to assess acuity of care needs, facilitate patient flow and admission process and at assure a safe environment for patient care.
• Assess acuity of care needs in all department
• Assist staff to provide a safe work environment for patient care
• Oversee care and flow of patients throughout the hospital
• Provide hands on care when needed
• Facilitate the admission process
• Respond to emergency situations in all departments and assist as necessary
• Facilitate safe after hours surgical recoveries
• Assist staff in all patient care departments to set shift priorities
• Consistently and independently follow established safety and infection control procedures. Intervenes in unsafe situations
• Provides hands on support during any departmental surges
• Meet or exceed clinical expectation of individuals for whom support is provided
• Continuously applies effective communication skills; involving staff via shift huddles and serving as a resource for clinical issues as they arise. Providing feedback to staff, to Department Directors and, as appropriate, to Administrator On Call (AOC).
• Assess staff and patient requirements on all units through shift huddles
• Maintain visibility within all departments by rounding every two hours
• Serve as resource for staff for solving clinical problems
• Respond efficiently and respectfully to calls for assistance
• Provide immediate follow-up, documentation and communication of incidents to appropriate department director or administrator on call
• Contact department directors for assistance with problem solving when appropriate
• Provide support, guidance and feedback to staff
• Provide verbal and written performance evaluations to department managers
• Identify and communicate staff educational needs to department directors
• Demonstrates skill and ability to establish appropriate staffing plan for shift based patient acuity, assisting staff to efficiently utilize staffing resources and manage patient flow. Applies appropriate time management skill to assure staff development is incorporated where possible and staff make good use of periods with lower patient volume.

With input from the Team Leads, develop and implement staffing plan for shift based on patient acuity, patient census, and available staff

• Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing resources to meet patient care needs and other professional responsibilities
• Act as a resource to identify and/or solve administrative/operational problems
• Manage flow and safety of patients throughout the hospital
• Work collaboratively with nursing and ancillary staff to solve issues in a fair and consistent manner
• Interpret and ensure adherence to BMH policies and procedures and CMS Conditions of Participation
• Obtain materials, supplies and night pharmacy medications as needed
• Contribute to evening/night staff performance evaluation
• Provide staff development session to be offered during shift downtime
• Assist staff to interpret change in a positive manner
• Assist with the development of department goals
• Assumes personal and professional accountability to lead by example and shows knowledge and support for all policies, procedures and regulatory mandates.

• When practicing as an individual contributor, the Administrative Clinical Supervisor - RN meets all Core Clinical Competencies including Patient Safety, Infection Control, Patient/Family Education, Quality Improvement and Documentation. Meets all Nursing Core Clinical Competencies;including Medication Administration, IV Therapy, Pain Management, Nursing Process and RN Leadership.
