Community Support Specialist

The Community Support Specialist makes a direct, lasting impact by empowering individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to build independence, confidence, and meaningful connections in their communities. Through personalized, hands-on support, this role helps people develop daily living, social, and life skills that support their goals and aspirations. By fostering inclusion and encouraging active participation in community life, the Community Support Specialist helps individuals strengthen their sense of belonging and enhance their overall quality of life.Duties and ResponsibilitiesImplement individualized service plans while keeping track of progress according to agency standardsSupport individuals' skill development towards independence, including cooking, budgeting, and communicationTransport clients safely to appointments, community activities, employment, and other essential destinationsMonitor client safety and respond appropriately in emergenciesEstablish professional, positive, and supportive relationships with individuals, families, and community partnersProvide respectful and safe daily support to clients in residential settingsQualificationsHigh school completion or equivalentValid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and consistent, regular access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicleStrong communication skillsPositive regard for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, autism, and co-occurring mental health or substance use disordersTeam player with a collaborative approachAbility to maintain a calm demeanor and utilize de-escalation skillsWorkplace EnvironmentRequires working in a variety of locations including program spaces, residential environments, and in the communityRequires working with clients who may have difficult behaviorsTransporting clients by car is required.Work hours include evening and weekend shifts as needed to meet staffing requirementsBenefitsWashington County Mental Health Services benefits package includes health, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with a generous match, paid time off, life insurance, and more. #J-18808-Ljbffr
