Sr. Special Procedures Technologist

Performs, assists, and completes cardiac and vascular radiographic examinations. Performs active radiographic interventional procedures in the cardiovascular lab using complicated and sophisticated equipment. Operates equipment to produce digital images of designated body portions as ordered by physicians. Positions and instructs patients for examinations and performs specialized studies. Provides clinical care efficiently and effectively using a high level of technical and organizational skills as well as critical thinking ability. Models, mentors, and trains staff on technical skills. Provides input into hiring and promotion decisions for staff. Operates diagnostic imaging equipment to produce contrast-enhanced radiographs of the heart and cardiovascular system during cardiac catheterization to aid in diagnostic evaluation and treatment. Positions and immobilizes patients on examining tables using specified protocols. Assists physicians with specialized procedures including special exams. Enters technical factors determined by protocol such as radiation beam quality and specified filming sequence into the computer. Manipulates and positions x-ray tubes in response to instructions from physicians. Starts automatic injection of contrast medium into patients' blood vessels. Activates fluoroscope and motion picture cameras to produce images that assist physicians in guiding catheters through patients' cardiovascular systems. Provides patients with procedure explanations in preparation for exams and delivers clear discharge instructions. Observes gauges, recorder, and video screens that indicate blood pressure, cardiac output, and respiration during imaging of the cardiovascular system. Alerts physicians to changes in patient responses. Monitors and controls environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and electrical safety. Assists physicians in interventional procedures such as instilling enzymes or inserting balloons in blood vessels to remove plaque or other blockage. Maintains accurate and updated documentation adhering to program standards. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. This department performs before, during, and after care of invasive, interventional, and therapeutic procedures/studies for cardiac and vascular disorders. If you use this department, do not use Electrophysiology.
