Human Resource Manager

Position: Human Resources Manager Location: Newton Country Day School, 785 Centre St. Newton, MA Schedule: Full-time, 12 months Salary: $85,000 - $115,000 JOB SUMMARY Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart (NCDS) seeks a service-minded Human Resources (HR) Manager to join the Business Office, serving as a trusted resource for employees and a strategic advisor for leadership. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the HR Manager collaborates with the Head of School, Associate Head of School, department heads and the Business Office staff on all HR related matters from strategic organizational goals and day-to-day operations. The HR Manager is responsible for all human resource functions, including but not limited to benefits administration, payroll, compliance, recruitment, and employee relations. This position serves as the primary point of contact for employees and oversees the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through performance management, professional development, and offboarding. The HR Manager helps to promote a supportive and high-performing workplace maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, professionalism, and respect in all employee matters. On strategic matters, the Human Resources Manager works in close collaboration with the CFO and Head of School. On operational matters (e.g. talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations), the Human Resources Manager partners with division and department heads, the Associate Head of School, and other supervisors. The Manager’s role is to ensure that NCDS HR practices align with our mission and values, serve as a subject matter expert, be culturally competent, and able to handle sensitive issues with discretion and respect for all parties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES HR Strategy & Leadership Drive and implement HR strategy aligned with the School's mission, including leading strategic planning projects and organizational initiatives. Serve as the school’s primary HR advisor Generate meaningful HR reports and dashboards to provide data-driven insights for decision-making. Develop and execute recruitment, hiring, and onboarding strategies to build a diverse and high-performing candidate pipeline. Partner with department heads on workforce planning, staffing needs, and professional development opportunities. Direct annual performance evaluation processes and professional feedback cycles across the school. Employee Relations & Onboarding Oversee the full employee lifecycle and day-to-day operations related to HR Manage the onboarding function which includes offer letters, background checks, verification of teaching credentials, benefit enrollment and various paperwork requirements Manage employee relations, address workplace concerns, and facilitate conflict resolution with discretion. Foster a positive campus culture through collaborative policy development and transparent internal communications. Compensation, Benefits & Payroll Ensure accurate, on-time delivery of bi-weekly payroll via Paylocity, including meticulous data validation and reconciliation. Administer comprehensive benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement plans, and lead the annual open enrollment process. Conduct compensation analysis and salary benchmarking to support equitable budgeting and pay practices. Compliance & Risk Management Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws through regular audits and regulatory reporting. Manage all mandated training and employment screenings, including CORI/background checks and sexual misconduct prevention. Maintain high-quality, audit-ready personnel records and digital files. Finance & Administrative Serve as a member of the Business Office to ensure strong internal processes and internal controls, including financial reconciliation and department budget preparation. Process various leaves and payroll adjustments. Serve as the primary HR point of contact for campus housing and resident employee operations in coordination with facilities. Contribute to broader administrative projects and operational initiatives as assigned. Minimum Qualifications BA/BS or equivalent. Five years of progressively complex HR leadership experience. Experience with Paylocity or a similar HRIS. General digital literacy; intermediate to advanced MS Office Suite, Google Suite and other web-based applications; Zoom and other communication applications, as appropriate to job duties, and ability to learn and adapt as digital tools evolve. Experience practicing HR in an academic or similar setting. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Preferred Qualifications MA/MS or equivalent in business administration, HR or related field. HR certification, PHR/SPHR or SHRM CP/SCP. Independent school experience. Experience with Massachusetts compliance requirements. Ability to model professionalism, ethical leadership, empathy, and adherence to rules and policies. Align with the mission and Goals of Sacred Heart education. Ability to maintain confidentiality and apply sound judgment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong presentation skills. Physical Requirements Mobility sufficient to navigate campus and off-campus venues. Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, parents, and the public. Ability to sit at computer and keyboard for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Newton Country Day School is an equal opportunity employer.
