Job Title: Assembler – Sanitary Department

Job Description

This role focuses on assembling sub-components and finished products within a fast-paced sanitary manufacturing environment. You will build units using hand and power tools, and operate equipment such as overhead cranes and stacker machines. Working closely with a partner, you help build metal assemblies while following diagrams, schematics, and 5S standards in a clean, organized facility.

Responsibilities

• Assemble sub-components and finished products according to established processes and assembly diagrams.
• Work with a partner at the assembly table to gasket each plate efficiently and accurately.
• Train on and operate the stacker machine, repeatedly lifting plates overhead and stacking them safely.
• Use hand tools and power tools to fit and assemble metal products to specification.
• Operate an overhead crane to move and position larger units and components during the build process.
• Review assembly drawings and schematics to determine required parts, quantities, and proper placement for each unit.
• Fit and secure metal components, lifting 60 lbs or more as needed to assemble products.
• Work with one team member to fulfill daily product orders and meet production targets.
• Perform repetitive lifting, climbing, standing, walking, and extending arms for extended periods of time.
• Use tape measures and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure accurate assembly.
• Follow 5S and other workplace organization standards to maintain a neat, clean, and well-structured work area.
• Adhere to all safety procedures while using hand tools, power tools, and material handling equipment.

Essential Skills

• Ability to assemble and fit metal products using hand tools and power tools.
• Comfort with fast-paced production and repetitive tasks, including gasketting up to 400 plates per shift.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs or more (40 lbs or more independently) on a regular basis, with occasional lifting of 60 lbs+ to fit product together.
• Capability to perform frequent lifting, climbing, standing, walking, and extending arms for extended periods.
• Regular ability to walk, sit, and reach during the course of the shift.
• Proficiency in using tape measures and basic measuring tools to verify dimensions.
• Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, diagrams, and schematics to determine parts, quantities, and proper placement.
• Experience or comfort operating hand and power tools in a manufacturing or assembly setting.
• Willingness and ability to operate an overhead crane to move larger units safely (training provided as needed).
• High school diploma or GED required upon conversion to permanent employment, with support available to obtain GED.
• Ability to safely use hands for extended periods to operate tools and equipment.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with metal components and assemblies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in metal fabrication, assembly, or similar manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with heat exchanger assembly or related industrial equipment is beneficial.
• Ability to follow 5S and other lean manufacturing practices to maintain an organized workspace.
• Comfort working in a structured, process-driven environment with clearly labeled sections and workflows.
• Willingness to participate in a dedicated two-week training program with a trainer to learn processes and equipment.
• Interest in growing into a unit builder role and expanding skills in assembly and equipment operation.
• Eligibility and motivation to complete a company-funded GED program if a diploma or GED is not yet obtained.

Work Environment

The role is based on a clean, organized, and large manufacturing floor where sections are clearly labeled according to materials and production processes. The facility is climate-controlled and strongly focused on 5S, maintaining a neat, safe, and efficient workspace. Multiple shifts are available: first shift runs from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM with the possibility of working until 4:30 PM; second shift operates from 2:15 PM to 10:45 PM Monday through Friday with possible Saturday hours from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM; third shift runs from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM Sunday through Thursday. Work involves frequent standing, walking, climbing, reaching, and repetitive lifting of metal plates and components, including overhead work on the stacker machine. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, tape measures, and an overhead crane in a production environment that emphasizes safety, organization, and continuous workflow

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
