Product Designer

As a Product Designer in our design team, you will help create clear, useful, and accessible experiences across our digital products and services. Reporting to the Lead Product Designer, you will work alongside fellow product designers and collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and teams across Good Energy. You will contribute throughout the end-to-end design process—from understanding customer needs and mapping journeys to creating wireframes, prototypes, and polished interface designs. This role gives you a practical platform to develop your skills through research, feedback, and hands-on design work, ensuring our products are consistent, easy to use, and inclusive.

Responsibilities

• UX/UI design and prototyping : Create wireframes, user flows, UI designs and prototypes that clearly communicate how an experience should work. Design and refine interface components using our design system.
• Cross-functional collaboration : Work collaboratively with product designers, product managers, engineers and wider teams. Share ideas, give and receive feedback, and contribute to shared decisions.
• Customer research and discovery : Contribute to customer research, usability testing and discovery activities. Use research, evidence and feedback to iterate and improve designs.
• Journey mapping and service design : Help map customer journeys and service experiences across digital channels, communications, support and internal processes to identify problems and opportunities.
• Accessibility and inclusive design : Apply user-centred design principles to identify and resolve usability issues. Consider accessibility and inclusive design throughout your work, including cognitive, sensory and physical differences.
• Design systems and visual communication : Use and contribute to our design system, and create clear diagrams, visual assets or illustrations where they help communicate ideas or improve the customer experience.

What you'll need to succeed

As a Product Designer, you’ll be collaborative, curious and practical. You’ll communicate clearly, listen to others and be comfortable solving problems through iteration and feedback.

You’ll have a strong eye for visual design, good attention to detail and a user-centred mindset. You’ll be confident using Figma, working with design systems and using research and evidence to inform design decisions across responsive digital products.

Essentials:

• A portfolio demonstrating a practical and collaborative approach to solving design problems.
• Experience designing digital products or services, whether through professional work, placements, internships, freelance work or relevant projects.
• Proficiency with Figma and a solid understanding of design systems or component libraries.
• A strong understanding of user-centred design, with experience using user research and evidence to inform design decisions.
• Practical experience creating wireframes, user flows, prototypes and UI designs.
• An understanding of end-to-end customer journeys and common product design methods.
• A solid understanding of digital accessibility, inclusive design and responsive design.
• Strong organisation and time-management skills, with a willingness to ask questions, take feedback and continue developing your skills

Desirables:

• Experience conducting user research or usability testing.
• Experience mapping complex customer journeys or end-to-end service experiences.
• Hands-on experience contributing to a design system.
• Experience using collaborative tools such as Miro.
• Experience designing data visualisations.
• Experience working across both digital and non-digital touchpoints of a service.
• Familiarity with using approved AI tools to support design work, including reviewing and validating their output.

Hybrid working explained: When and where you’ll be in the office

Our office is based in Chippenham, Wiltshire. For this role, we're looking for candidates who can come in to our Chippenham office, once a week.

We offer both formal and informal flexible working options. Full-time hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday.
