Full-Time | On-Site | Utah

Position Overview

Heritage Schools is seeking an Assistant Principal & Special Education Leader to oversee daily academic operations, instructional leadership, and special education services across Spark and Elevate Academy.

This role combines academic advising, faculty leadership, graduation planning, and IEP oversight in a therapeutic school environment. The ideal candidate is a steady, relational leader who can balance academic excellence with trauma-informed, student-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary academic leader and advisor for students.

• Oversee academic planning, credit tracking, graduation progress, and scheduling.

• Lead and coach instructional staff through classroom walkthroughs, feedback, and professional development.

• Supervise special education staff and ensure IEP and special education compliance.

• Monitor student academic progress and coordinate early interventions when concerns arise.

• Collaborate with families, school districts, LEAs, clinical teams, and residential staff.

• Maintain accurate academic and special education records and support audit and accreditation readiness.

• Support trauma-informed behavioral responses and classroom stability.

• Guide students and families through graduation and post-Heritage transition planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or Special Education required; Master's preferred.

• Valid Utah Educator License required.

• Administrative endorsement or eligibility preferred.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching, academic leadership, advising, or special education.

• Strong knowledge of IEP compliance, graduation requirements, and alternative education pathways.

• Experience in therapeutic, residential, or nontraditional school settings strongly preferred.

• Strong communication, organization, relationship-building, and leadership skills.

• Ability to remain steady and effective in a high-stress, therapeutic environment.
