The College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences (PAHS) at the University of North Texas prepares graduates to address complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, exercise physiology and urban design. We have eight academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Kristin Farmer Autism Center, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNTWISE) program, UNT ELEVAR, and several professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society. Located within PAHS, the Department of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology (ASLP) provides the finest graduate professional education in both speech-language pathology and audiology while maintaining an excellent undergraduate degree. The program stresses excellence in teaching, research, and service by its faculty and students. As a component of the educational program, the department operates the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, which offers professional services to members of our campus community and the general public for the purpose of providing clinical training for students. The Center offers state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and hearing disorders.
Position Overview
The UNT Speech & Hearing Center Patient Access Representative will perform clerical duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties may include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and one year of customer service experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Ability to multi-task in a busy environment while maintaining professional composure.
* Skilled in consistently completing assignments on time, accurately and with attention to detail.
* Excellent customer service and strong communication skills.
* Demonstrates basic skills and knowledge of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an audiology or speech-language pathology clinic.
Required License/Registration/Certifications Job Duties
Physical Requirements
Communicating with others to exchange information.
Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

- Operate office equipment, such as voice mail messaging systems, and use word processing, spreadsheet, or other software applications to prepare reports, invoices, financial statements, letters, case histories, or medical records.
- Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff.
- Schedule and confirm patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries, or medical consultation
- Maintain medical records, technical library, or correspondence files.
- Greet visitors, ascertain the purpose of visit and direct them to appropriate staff.
- Compile and record medical charts, reports, or correspondence, using a typewriter or personal computer.
- Receive and route messages or documents, such as laboratory results, to appropriate staff.
- Transmit correspondence or medical records by mail, email, or fax.
- Perform various clerical or administrative functions, such as ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
- Interview patients to complete documents, case histories, or forms, such as intake or insurance forms.
- Other duties as assigned.
