At M. J. Electric, you aren't just applying for a job, you are building a career. About this Role - Estimator We are looking for a talented Estimator who has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for developing cost estimates and resource requirements for electrical transmission and distribution construction projects throughout the region. What You’ll Do Work as part of an integrated Operations and Estimating team in acquiring projects Assist project team in scoping projects for engineering, construction, and contractual requirements Review plans, specifications, drawings to determine the cost of the project Perform material takeoffs and develop an estimate of cost to perform the work according to the specifications Prepare budgetary project estimates based on limited information and general scopes of work, often lacking specific precedence Develop detailed lump sum project estimates based on company standards and site‑specific facility drawings Analyze time, equipment, tooling, material and manpower requirements for each project Interface with customers, vendors and subcontractors Select pool of potential subcontractors and material/equipment vendors to solicit their proposals Gather information regarding subcontractor and vendor suitability and determine the best pricing Exercise significant independent discretion in developing project estimates and applying "mark‑up" and "labor factors" Occasionally visit customer field locations as required to ascertain project conditions Attend pre‑ and post‑bid meetings, virtually or in person, as required and be able to effectively present information to clients Properly turn over bid documents to Operations Assist with the development of standardized historical cost databases and application tools to aid future estimates What You’ll Bring Ability to work independently and meet deadlines Ability to anticipate and meet internal and external customer needs Proven communication, organizational and persuasive interpersonal skills Ability to maintain confidentiality Knowledge of Microsoft Office and proficiency in the use of Excel Knowledge of estimating software programs B.S./B.A. in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Accounting/Finance, or equivalent experience (Preferred) 3-5 years of experience in the utility construction industry (Preferred) What You’ll Get 401(k) with company match (Traditional & Roth) Paid Holidays and PTO Medical, Dental, and Vision Flexible Spending Accounts Health Savings Account Accident Insurance Hospital Indemnity Insurance Critical Illness Insurance Lifelock Identity Theft Protection Employee Discounts Short‑Term & Long‑Term Disability #J-18808-Ljbffr M.J.
