Clayton Services is searching for a CNC Lead Machinist - Thermoplastics to join a growing manufacturing organization in North Houston. The CNC Lead Machinist - Thermoplastics will oversee daily machining operations, provide hands-on technical support, and lead a small team responsible for manufacturing precision thermoplastic components. This position requires strong CNC machining experience, knowledge of advanced thermoplastic materials, and the ability to troubleshoot production issues, improve processes, and support programming and estimating activities as needed.

Job Type: Temp-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $35.00 - $45.00/hour
Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 10-hour shifts (40 hours per week)

CNC Lead Machinist - Thermoplastics Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate daily CNC machining operations to ensure production goals, quality standards, and delivery schedules are met.
• Provide hands-on leadership, training, and technical guidance to a small team of CNC machinists.
• Operate, set up, and troubleshoot CNC lathes and mills used to manufacture precision thermoplastic components.
• Assist with machining operations, part rework, equipment adjustments, and production troubleshooting as needed.
• Work with advanced thermoplastic materials, including PEEK, PTFE, Teflon, and other engineered plastics.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and machining requirements.
• Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs as needed to support new and existing manufacturing processes.
• Assist with new-part quotations and estimating by evaluating machining feasibility, cycle times, tooling requirements, and production costs.
• Monitor production quality, machining tolerances, material utilization, and workflow efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, improve cycle times, and enhance overall manufacturing productivity.
• Coordinate with engineering, quality, production management, and other departments to resolve technical and operational challenges.
• Ensure compliance with established safety procedures, quality standards, and manufacturing best practices.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain an organized, efficient, and safe production environment.

CNC Lead Machinist - Thermoplastics Skills and Qualifications:

• Previous hands-on CNC machining experience, including machine setup, operation, troubleshooting, and process optimization, is required.
• Experience machining thermoplastics or engineered plastic materials, such as PEEK, PTFE, Teflon, or similar materials, is required.
• Strong working knowledge of CNC lathes and mills.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, machining specifications, and dimensional tolerances.
• Experience leading, training, or mentoring CNC machinists in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot machining issues, adjust processes, and perform precision part rework.
• Working knowledge of CNC programming, program modifications, and machining cycle-time optimization.
• Understanding of tooling selection, cutting parameters, and machining techniques for thermoplastic materials.
• Experience supporting machining estimates, production planning, or new-part quotations is preferred.
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and quality control practices is preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or manufacturing training preferred.
