Job Title: General Production Worker Job Description

This role provides hands-on general labor and production support in a tire retread shop. You will assist with all stages of the retread process, from removing used tread to operating machinery and inspecting finished tires. The position involves frequent use of pneumatic tools, hoists, and conveyor systems to handle large semi-truck tires in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

• Assist with daily retread operations in a tire production shop.
• Remove used tread from tires using pneumatic tools in a safe and efficient manner.
• Measure and cut tire tread to the correct length according to production specifications.
• Operate machinery to adhere new tread to wheels and ensure proper alignment.
• Use hoists to lift and maneuver used semi-truck tires onto J-hooks attached to pulley and conveyor systems.
• Operate conveyor systems to transport tires into heating chambers for processing.
• Monitor baking cycles, including a 4-hour bake process, and unload tires from ovens using conveyor and pulley systems.
• Inspect tires for quality after processing and identify any defects or issues.
• Use pneumatic buffing tools to finish tires and achieve the required surface quality.
• Support production activities in other departments as needed to meet overall output goals.
• Follow all safety procedures when working with heavy equipment, pneumatic tools, and conveyor systems.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area despite working with used tires and production equipment.
• Work regular scheduled hours from 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and remain available to stay until 1:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. for overtime as needed.
• Remain open and available to work some Saturdays when required, with at least one week’s notice.
• Perform physically demanding tasks, including standing for the entire shift and frequently pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping to maneuver large tires.

• Experience in general labor, production, manufacturing, or warehouse environments.
• Ability to safely operate pneumatic tools, including tools used to remove tread and buff tires.
• Ability to use hoists, conveyor systems, and pulley systems to lift and move large semi-truck tires.
• Comfort working in a physically demanding role that requires standing for the entire shift.
• Ability to frequently push, pull, bend, and stoop while handling large tires.
• Willingness and availability to work regular hours from 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
• Willingness and availability to work overtime, including staying until 1:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. and working 10-hour shifts when needed.
• Openness to working Saturdays as required, with advance notice.
• Attention to detail for measuring, cutting, and inspecting tire tread and finished tires.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and operate equipment in a manufacturing environment.

• Prior experience in tire production, retread operations, or similar manufacturing processes is beneficial.
• Experience working with conveyor systems and industrial ovens is an advantage.
• Comfort working in a louder, industrial environment with multiple machines operating.
• Ability to work collaboratively with production teams across different departments.

The work takes place in a tire retread shop that handles used semi-truck tires. The environment can be somewhat dirty due to the nature of working with used tires and rubber materials. Some areas can be louder because of multiple conveyor systems, ovens, and other production equipment operating simultaneously. Tires are transported throughout the facility on conveyor systems and hung from hooks, with ovens and other production machinery running during shifts. The role requires being on your feet for the entire shift and performing frequent physical movements such as pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping. Regular hours are 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the need to stay later for overtime and occasionally work Saturdays when required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
