ASCP Surgical Technologist - OB/Nursery

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing essential support in surgical and obstetric care. As a Surgical Technologist, you will collaborate closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and other surgical staff to ensure patient safety and efficient surgical procedures before, during, and after operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with surgical procedures, including C-sections, in the Labor & Delivery operating room.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and demonstrate excellent dexterity.
• Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring sterile technique and proper aseptic practices.
• Set up sterile tables for deliveries and surgical procedures, restock rooms, and coordinate inventory with Sterile Processing.
• Perform nursing aide duties such as answering unit phones, checking on patients, and documenting patient information electronically.
• Clean and stock delivery suites, nursery equipment, and related areas as needed.
• Assist with activities of daily living including meals, grooming, skin care, and toileting.
• Provide postpartum care including application of K-Pads, ice packs, and binders.
• Collect specimens, take vital signs, document intake and output, and communicate patient condition changes to appropriate personnel.

Education: Graduation from an accredited Nursing, Practical Nurse, or Surgical Technologist program is required. Candidates with CNA certification and documented cross-training as a scrub tech are encouraged to apply.

Experience: Prior experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is preferred but not mandatory. Surgical Assistants should have at least three years of scrub experience.

Certifications and Licenses: Training in surgical scrub techniques and completion of scrub tech orientation in both OR and OB settings are required. American Heart Association BLS certification must be obtained prior to orientation completion. Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred.

Mental and Physical Requirements: This role demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions: Expect frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, as well as occasional interactions with hostile individuals. Physical discomfort is minimal but present.
