Staff Supplier Engineer - Metals

Job Summary Seasoned Staff Supplier Engineer – Metals in our MedTech Robotics and Digital Solutions franchise. Develops and validates manufacturing processes for metal/machining components, leads scale‑up at suppliers, and collaborates cross‑functionally with manufacturing engineering, R&D, purchasing, quality, supply chain, marketing, and finance teams. Drives process improvement, root‑cause analysis, and supplier performance while ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards. Responsibilities Own and deliver development, characterization, and validation of metals/machining components and sub‑assembly processes at suppliers for new product development (NPD) and sustaining production. Lead the scale‑up of supplier manufacturing processes to production quantities. Collaborate with multi‑functional teams to provide technical solutions for direct material component manufacturing and assembly processes, optimized for manufacturing, product performance, and cost. Apply engineering principles, world‑class manufacturing techniques, statistics, and risk management to resolve complex technical challenges. Identify, manage, and provide priorities and direction to external suppliers to satisfy manufacturing and development requirements for tooling, manufacturing, and inspections. Ensure robust requirements cascade from design to suppliers. Drive suppliers to continually improve their business and manufacturing process performance, using best practices in project management, Six Sigma, Lean, SPC, and negotiation. Support corrective actions for supplier processes by driving root‑cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions. Coordinate project activities and maintain accountability for overall project success. Coach junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities. Qualifications B.S. in Engineering or equivalent. Minimum 7 years meaningful work experience in a regulated industry (medical device preferred). Validated knowledge of metal component manufacturing processes: machining, metal injection molding, stamping, casting, EDM/ECM, additive manufacturing, etc. Experience interpreting engineering drawings (GD&T). Mechatronics and robotics experience preferred. Strong understanding of quality requirements/documents: SPC, capability analysis, FMEA, DFM/DA. Experience with supplier management, supplier qualification/selection, and process improvement. Root‑cause analysis and Six Sigma methodology understanding preferred. Excellent knowledge of 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485, and other regulatory requirements for medical device design, build, and release. Up to 20% domestic and international travel required.
