The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) provides the tools and resources to ensure that all diverse learners receive a high-quality public education that prepares students for success. OSD is responsible for student evaluations, creating and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and working with schools, staff, and families to fulfill these plans toward greater student development and achievement. A critical area within the Office is to provide financial and operational support to schools, networks, and central office departments, including but not limited to the allocation of special education resources to CPS schools so that every child is provided with the services outlined by a student's IEP. Job Summary: Reporting to the Manager, Service Delivery, Audiologists are responsible for the evaluation and treatment of a variety of communicative disorders that adversely impact student access to curriculum and classroom performance. Audiology responsibilities include evaluating and providing recommendations on student hearing needs, as well as educating school staff, administrators, teachers, students and families on the use of hearing technology in the classroom. This role consults with various educational and school-based staff to identify the needs of students with audiological impairments, determine supports necessary for success and ensure students have appropriate and effective, auditory access to their educational environment. This is a full-time, exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis. The Audiologist will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Administer and interpret a variety of tests to determine type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech
- Manage hearing aids and assistive listening devices for students
- Administer and interpret Central Auditory Processing evaluations for educational planning
- Collaborate and consult with school staff members to provide strategies to adapt or modify learning tasks rooted in the Common Core State Standards, physical setting, and/or performance assessments to ensure student success in the least restrictive environment
- Proactively serve as a resource to the prevention of communication disorders through implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
- Complete comprehensive evaluations of communication skills to determine student need and provide recommendations to support classroom instruction
- Collaborate with team members to write measurable and achievable IEP goals that are aligned to the Common Core State Standards
- Participate in Consent Assessment, Eligibility, IEP and/or 504 meetings as members of a multidisciplinary team
- Work collaboratively with school staff, parents and the community to support the academic, social and vocational needs of all student
- Adhere to and align service provision to the mission and vision of CPS and the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD)
- Maintain accurate student records through the completion of weekly progress notes, monthly scheduling, and quarterly progress reports
- Follow established district and departmental codes of conduct, attendance, and ethics. Update career knowledge by tracking trends in new techniques and approaches; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
Other audiology-related duties as assigned In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Audiologist must possess the following qualifications:
- Education Required: Doctorate of Audiology from an accredited college or university
- Valid Illinois Department of Professional and Financial Regulation (IDPFR) License in Audiology
- Experience Required: Minimum of five (5) years of professional audiologist experience
- Experience in a K-12 environment strongly preferred
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Understands Federal and State laws related to the education of students with disabilities
- Ability to learn various equipment such as the Audiostar Pro Audiometer, Tympanometer, DPOAE equipment
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment, interact positively with school staff, administrators, parents and families in a professional and respectful manner, and communicate with outside audiologists for continuity of care
- Ability to excel in constantly changing environments and adapts flexibly in shifting projects or priorities to meet the needs of a dynamic transformation effort; comfortable with ambiguity and non-routine situations
- Strong commitment to equity and closing the achievement gap to ensure that every child, regardless of background or socioeconomic status, receives an excellent education
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders in both oral and written forms in respectful manner and provide clear and concise recommendations
- Ability to explain diagnostic results in an approachable way
- Commitment to and ability to produce quantifiable student achievement gains through evidence-based high quality instructional practices

Conditions of Employment As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to: Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
