Property Claims Specialist

Title: Combined Cycle Specialist (I/C) (Polk) Company: Tampa Electric Company Location: Florida - Mulberry Shift: 12 Hr. X 7 Days Position Concept The Combined Cycle Specialist (CCS) reports to the Superintendent of Generation for the performance of all assigned operating and maintenance tasks. The incumbent is responsible for safe, efficient operation and maintenance of station equipment and systems, monitoring and maintaining conditions that ensure reliable operation of the station equipment, compliance with NERC standards and environmental permits, following water‑management guidance, completing individual and teamwork assignments, and ensuring an optimum and professional response to directives from the Energy Control Center. Prior to appointment, individuals must be able to pass and maintain the physical requirements for participation on an Emergency Response Team, including a physical exam and pulmonary function test and fit tests for respiratory protection equipment. Duties and Responsibilities Ensure safe work practices and station safety programs are followed, and corporate, ES, and Polk Power Station policies are understood and followed. Successfully complete all required training and assessments within the allotted time, including emergency response training (Confined Space Rescue, Hazmat, Incipient Fire, First Aid/CPR). Demonstrate the knowledge and skill needed to perform effectively in all operating positions: Control Room, Field Operators, Combustion (Turbine Generators and Steam Turbine Generator, Balance of Plant, and others as assigned). Perform accurate rounds, turnovers, documenting and sharing of information. Operate station equipment in all modes: start‑up, shutdown, normal, and abnormal/upsets. Perform Hazardous Energy Control (HEC) program functions. Initiate/complete work orders utilizing the Computerized Maintenance Management System. Perform all assignments in a safe and efficient manner. Be able to perform at a journeyman level within the CCS’s core craft skill (electrical, mechanical, or I&C) and aid other CCS’s with any maintenance task as needed. Keep Energy Control Center personnel, duty personnel, plant management, engineering and technical staff updated on equipment problems, system restrictions, return‑to‑service delays, and reliability issues. Complete turn‑over logs, unusual incident reports, accident reports, environmental incident reports, Continuous Emissions Monitoring malfunction documentation, and the unit capability report. Respond to emergencies such as personnel injuries, fires, ammonia release, bomb threats, etc., following documented policies and procedures to notify the appropriate personnel. Foster and participate in an environment of open communication with peers, support staff and management. Understand and strive to support the attainment of company and station goals. Embrace change as new technologies, tools and practices are introduced into the station and work area. Demonstrate “good housekeeping.” Perform other duties as assigned. Education Required: Valid High School Diploma or GED. Preferred: Two‑year technical degree from an accredited institution per TECO Education Policy, or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Experience Required: Minimum of four years of related journeyman‑level work experience in a large industrial complex maintaining and troubleshooting equipment in the Instrumentation & Control area. Experience must include preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance and operating various types of industrial equipment (forklifts, overhead cranes, golf carts, trucks, etc.). Preferred: Experience in a Utility Power Plant, Process Industry, or Petrochemical Plant. Working Conditions Exposure to high temperature environments and the elements. Ability to work alone in assigned areas. Ability to perform work in confined spaces and high places. Ability to hear speech over a radio, face‑to‑face, and alarms. Vision: 20/30 in one eye, 20/50 in the other with or without glasses, and good visual perception. Ability to climb and descend fixed ladders and up to twenty flights of stairs with sufficient balance and coordination. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. Ability to perform physical work while bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs, and carrying up to 20 lbs. Physical ability to wear various respiratory devices: half‑face air‑purifying respirator, full‑face, SCBA, supplied‑air respirator, and other PPE. Exposure to EMF fields and small dose exposures to microwaves and gamma radiation sources due to electrical generation. Physical Demands / Requirements Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment for work assigned. Must be able to independently operate a motor vehicle safely. Must be able to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods. Must be able to grasp/handle small hand tools and other objects with fingers and palms. Must be able to pull, push, lift, and carry objects up to 100 lbs. Must be physically capable of indoor/outdoor manual labor.
