Job Description

A growing organization in the Ames area is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accountant who wants hands-on experience with the full financial close process and exposure to a multi-entity accounting environment. The role will be involved in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation. Ideal for a recent Accounting graduate with relevant internship experience or an accountant with 1–2 years of experience who is ready to continue building their technical accounting skills.

What You’ll Do

• Perform account reconciliations across multiple entities
• Prepare and book recurring journal entries
• Support month-end and year-end close, including accruals and allocations
• Prepare and distribute financial statements
• Prepare reporting for sponsored investment funds
• Support accounts receivable and accounts payable as needed
• Partner with departments across the organization to gather accounting information
• Assist with accounting projects and process improvements

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or at least 1+ years of experience
• Some practical accounting experience through professional experience, internships, or a similar setting
• Exposure to multiple areas of the full accounting cycle
• Strong Excel and general computer skills
• Detail-oriented with the ability to learn quickly and take on additional responsibility
• Desire to build a long-term career in accounting
