Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A rewarding contract opportunity awaits a skilled Sign Language Interpreter with a passion for supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. This role involves facilitating effective communication between D/HH students and hearing individuals within an educational setting for the upcoming school year, with assignment hours totaling 37.5 per week. The contract is set to run from August 3, 2026, through May 21, 2027.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid and current licensure for sign language interpreting (must be presented upon assignment)
- Demonstrated experience interpreting spoken English to American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa
- Familiarity with working in K-12 educational environments preferred
- Professional approach with a strong commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards
- Reliable, organized, and dedicated to student success
Core Responsibilities:
- Enable clear communication for two elementary students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Accurately interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and other school communications between staff, students, and families
- Adapt interpreting style as appropriate to the educational context
- Collaborate with educators and school staff to support inclusive education
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional codes of conduct at all times
