POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner in the Cardiology Department provides quality service by performing a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for the admission of patients scheduled for cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, stress tests, echos, and chest pain observation. The NP works with the Cardiologist to provide consultation to in‑patients. The processes of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow‑up, and outcome evaluation are utilized. The NP is an independent health care provider who works closely in collaboration with the Medical Director of Cardiology and physicians of the Cardiology Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deliver quality care in preparing cardiology patients for invasive cardiac procedures (cardiac cath/EP), echo and stress testing, evaluating and treating cardiac patients, obtaining consents, and following patients post cardiac catheterization as well as admitting and discharging patients from the cardiology service. Assist in growing the Cardiology line of services at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s in Nursing Degree and completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program, required. New York State Licensed Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. Nurse Practitioner National Board Certification in specialty area required. Completion of a pharmacology component of not less than three (3) semester hours or equivalent, including instruction in NYS laws relating to prescription and record keeping (3‑hour course). Previous experience relevant to cardiology and prescriptive privileges in NYS. Current BLS/ACLS/PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association, required. Other Requirements: May require travel to other locations to support operational needs. May require wearing respiratory protection, which may prohibit facial hair. Anticipated Pay Range: The starting salary range for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The range is a good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.
