Athletics Groundskeeper

Job Title Athletics Groundskeeper Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor/Principal Department: Maintenance Department Exemption Status: Nonexempt Pay Grade: MS2 Days per Year: 235 Primary Purpose Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping of all athletic fields. Qualifications Education/Certification: Valid Texas driver’s license Successful fingerprinting background check with non‑refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee Special Knowledge/Skills: Read and understand written instructions Verbal communication Operate tractor and landscaping equipment Operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand tools Experience: None Major Responsibilities and Duties Mow and detail all athletic grounds, including some district fields Care for trees, shrubs, and flowers (watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, bed care, weed control) Plant shrubs and vegetation Assist preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking Water grounds and apply fertilizer Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities Assist inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district Maintain flexible schedule; athletic events may require flex‑time, compensation time, or overtime pay Safety Operate tools and equipment according to safety procedures Follow established safety procedures and techniques for job duties (lifting, climbing, etc.) Correct unsafe conditions and report uncorrectable conditions to supervisor immediately Keep vehicle, equipment, and tools safe and operating Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency; perform preventive maintenance as needed Physical Demands and Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment (backhoe, tractor, mower, grader); riding mower; gas‑powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine, auger, aerator; light truck or van Posture: Frequent standing, walking, climbing, reaching, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, heavy lifting and carrying, twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching; frequent driving Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45‑pounds and over) daily Environment: Work outside on slippery or uneven surfaces; exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemicals (herbicides, fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; irregular and occasional prolonged hours; frequent district‑wide travel Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress #J-18808-Ljbffr Young World Physical Education
