About the Role
The Company is seeking a Deputy General Counsel (DGC) to provide oversight and direction, ensuring adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and policies. The DGC will work closely with the General Counsel and supervise a team that includes attorneys, hearing examiners, and program coordinators. The role involves serving as a legal advisor to the agency, representing the agency in various legal matters, and developing and monitoring regulations and policies. The DGC will also be responsible for a caseload of civil litigation, responding to union grievances, subpoenas, and inquiries from other agencies, and ensuring the agency meets all necessary deadlines, particularly in life sentence matters. Applicants for the DGC position at the company should have a minimum of 6 years' professional experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. A legal background with a focus on administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience is essential. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of parole theories, applicable statutes, and regulations, as well as knowledge of the court system, public records law, and employment law. The DGC must be adept at conflict resolution, maintaining harmonious relationships, and exercising sound judgment. The role requires the ability to lead multiple project teams, anticipate personnel issues, and ensure the efficient operation of the legal office.
