Advanced Practice Provider, Float - Hematology/Oncology

Overview Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support our offices located in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. Responsibilities Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting Initiate and document appropriate interventions Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol Prescribe drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation Assess patient and family needs and provide education Promote/provide staff education Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice Qualifications Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or an accredited Physician Assistant program Two years of post Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hematology/oncology experience Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant Current CPR certification required Must be willing to travel to the various practice locations Physical Demands Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires the ability to bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in moving; assist patients in arising from exam table or bed; push wheelchair patients; assist patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Work Environment Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
